An individual is entitled to make a will and leave their estate to anyone they choose – unless a dependent is excluded or insufficiently provided for. But who is a ‘dependent’ for the purposes or making a dependency claim against the estate? It’s obvious a child under 18 qualifies – but what about adult children, or the spouse of an adult child?
